Happy Birthday Grandma Jody

My relationship with my stepmom is very important to me. She and my father have been together for well over 20 years, so to say that she's been a profound influence on my life is an understatement.

She is smart and fiercely funny. She is also exceedingly kind and generous.

The night before Lily was born, I called Jody on my way home from work. I was panicking. The date of the C-section had been moved up and I'd lost a full day of preparation. I gave Jody a list of all of the things I'd intended to buy the next day for the hospital stay, but couldn't now. All of the items arrived to me two days later. This is the kind of woman that you call when you are in a jam.

She is also the person I call when I need a good laugh, or just to blow off some steam. She's got solutions to your problems. Jealous yet?

Don't tell anyone, but she is also deeply sensitive to the needs of those around her. She is a great listener. And she knows that a trip to Target can brighten even the darkest day.

Jody, I love you. Thank you for all that you do for us. I am so glad that you are my stepmom.
