Today Lily is a week old! She gets more beautiful by the second. We had her first doctor's appointment today and she's as healthy as can be. I wasn't sure I'd be able to go to the appointment, because we live on the second floor of our building and the stairs are really difficult for me. But I'm so glad that I went. I got to ask the pediatrician about everything that I've been worrying about. He really helped me relax. I've always been a worrier, but I've never experienced worry like this. In addition to caring for the baby, Joe's main job is to calm me down.
For example, driving with a newborn in the car is the worst. We are hoping that it gets less stressful as we get used to it.
Joe is the master diaper changer and swaddler. He is totally crazy about Lily. I didn't think that I could be more in love with him, but seeing him with our baby proved me wrong.
Edward (the dog) is getting used to Lily little by little. He really hates it when she cries and he usually barks, which she doesn't seem to mind. He has licked her ears a few times but mostly lays by Joe's feet while he holds her. (Joe is in charge of getting the dog and the baby acquainted. I am way too nervous about it and my nervous energy doesn't help things). Joe has made sure that Edward is still getting lots of attention and that has really helped.
My Mom is here helping us and without her help I'd be a mess. She is doing all of the laundry, cleaning, etc so that Joe and I can focus on the baby. Her help is more valuable than I can say.
Also, last night we had our first conversation since Lily was born that wasn't about her. It took a week, but we actually talked about something else. It lasted for about 5 minutes, and then we got right back to talking about our girl.
